Forestry
Forests of Quebec and Labrador are of the utmost importance to First Nations. In fact, they are the very core of the identity of several of them. First Nations must thus call upon tools and experts that will allow them to fully participate in forest management and meet government and industry requests for consultations and co-management. Indeed, in the context were the planet has chosen to go green, Aboriginal traditional knowledge constitutes an essential contribution to any current and future forest management project and even to the very survival of our forests.
FNQLSDI was set up to ensure First Nations play their role in the sustainable management of their resources. Its mandate with regard to forestry consists among other things to create efficient tools, support First Nations in the sustainable management of their resources as well as meet the needs of the Chiefs and their communities.
