A conservation plan tailored to your situation
This template is designed to guide you in developing a conservation plan for your protected area project. The conservation plan is a land-use management tool that determines what needs to be protected within a given area and how: the natural heritage elements to be preserved, permitted and prohibited activities, and measures to protect biodiversity. It may also include elements of cultural heritage deemed important by the community (spiritual, identity-related, healing, or educational values), depending on what the community wishes to include.
Our template is intended for any First Nation undertaking a protected area project, starting from the earliest stages of its development. The resulting conservation plan also serves as a reference tool for governments, funders, researchers, and the public.
The structure proposed in this template is merely a suggestion, to be adapted to your specific circumstances. Each section outlines the content to be developed and provides tools—interactive maps, guides, references—to support your research, as well as examples of existing conservation plans in Quebec and elsewhere.
