On May 6, the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts (MRNF) announced the introduction of a new authorization for impact-causing exploration work on the land. This authorization requires mining claim holders to meet certain conditions before starting work. Among these obligations, they must present the planned work in detail to the local municipalities and First Nations concerned, in separate processes.
We anticipate that this new authorization will result in an increase in consultation requests and other solicitations of First Nations by mining claim holders.
