Indigenous Women’s Turn to Take the Talking Stick: They Are Putting Quill to Paper to Share Their Vision of Sustainable Development

We invited women from each of the ten First Nations in Quebec to take up the pen, alone or with allies, to share a story or perspective on the broad theme of sustainable development. In this creative process, they were free to share whatever they felt was important to record for present and future generations. The texts are a window into their worlds: their writings, ideas, teachings, observations, wisdom, fears, and aspirations. No fewer than 20 women answered the call. This multilingual book is the result of that initiative: a magnificent mosaic of significant cultural and ecological value. The wide variety of approaches and styles reflects the very open process used in its creation and is sure to please the curious reader.
