Indigenous Planning Webinar Series

March 26 2025

Between February 4 and March 25, 2025, we had the privilege of hosting the first regional webinar series on Indigenous Planning.

Rooted in the concept of planning from who we are, the series brought together nearly 200 participants, representing all 10 Nations in the FNQLSDI’s service area. Throughout the webinars, 17 inspiring panelists shared their stories and expertise with us. Together, we explored themes that are at the heart of Indigenous Planning:

  • Planning with the land
  • Teachings from stories, cultures and languages
  • Creating safe spaces and renewing relationships
  • Young people’s place in renewing governance and evolving roles and responsibilities
  • Comprehensive community planning as a tool for self-determination
  • Engaging citizens and the stages of a comprehensive community planning process
  • Implementing a comprehensive community plan and monitoring change

Many participants shared words of appreciation for the series:

I was impressed by the young panelists and their knowledge of their respective communities.

Powerful exchanges, I leave incredibly motivated. Nia:wen to the panelists and to the organizers!

As an Innu woman, I find it so inspiring to hear you speak this way about pride and strength! Thank you so much!

The webinars informed us of the leadership present in our communities. I liked the focus on young people, it gives a good insight into what they're doing, what's on their minds, and I also liked the community vision.

It was helpful to reaffirm that I already know what I'm doing when it comes to Indigenous planning and to trust myself as well as learning from the expertise of all the different speakers. It made me feel more prepared and less nervous about my work.

The recordings will be uploaded in the upcoming weeks, as soon as the subtitling and editing work is completed. They will be available on Nikan Skátne, our new virtual space in Indigenous Planning.  Stay tuned!
