Members of Matimekush–Lac John First Nation gather for the environment

Joint project with the Matimekush First Nation–Lac John

We worked with Conrad André Kapesh to organize an environment week in Matimekush–Lac John from October 13 to 16, 2022. The main objective was to come together to share information and hear community members on issues affecting their land.

It was also an opportunity to exchange views with the representatives of various ministries and organizations and find solutions together (mamu atusseutau). Over 60 people attended, including 10 elders who honoured us with their presence.

Pursuing the discussion and taking action

We organized a second gathering from February 1 to 4, 2023, which was attended by 45 people. The aim of this second event was to finish the workshops on members’ concerns and work with interested parties to establish a shared vision for an environmental office. Two liaison officers also interviewed 30 people who had been unable to attend the events.
